New funding coming for driver licences

04 May 2022.

The Government has announced funding for up to 64,000 people to get their driver licences over the next four years.

$86.5 million will fund programmes to help people who face barriers to getting their licence. For example, it will support people who can't afford driving lessons or tests, or who live in places where testing and lessons are not available.

Having a driver licence is expected to help more people get into work. It will also help make people on our roads safer.

This funding will be managed by the Ministry of Social Development and Waka Kotahi New Zealand Transport Agency.
