  • Processing your application

Once you submit an application we'll usually process this within three working days, however some applications may take longer.

This could be because we need to check your details with Inland Revenue. We may also need to check some details before or after you've been paid.

We cannot give you an update on your application status over the phone. We'll email you once your application has been processed to let you know the outcome. If we need to get in touch before then, we'll call or email you.

  • Changing or cancelling your application

If you've already submitted your application and you want to make changes, for example if you entered the wrong details, those details have since changed, or you want to cancel an application, you can call us on 0800 40 80 40.

If your application was waiting for some details to come through from Inland Revenue, you'll need to contact Inland Revenue. Once this is done Inland Revenue will send us the details we need - you don't need to call us to sort this out.

We cannot give you an update on your application status over the phone.

  • Wage Subsidy August 2021 payments that have ended

    Initial Wage Subsidy August 2021

    • Applications opened 9am, 20 August 2021 and closed 7am, 3 September 2021.
    • To meet the revenue decline test for the initial Wage Subsidy payment, you must have had at least 40% decline in revenue over any consecutive 14 day period between 17-31 August 2021 (inclusive), due to the effects of Alert Level 4 or 3. Initially the revenue test period was 17-30 August.
    • Read the declaration for the initial Wage Subsidy.

    Wage Subsidy August 2021 #2

    • Applications opened 9am, 3 September 2021, closed 11.59pm, 16 September 2021.
    • To meet the revenue decline test for the Wage Subsidy #2 payment, you must have had at least 40% decline in revenue over a consecutive 14 day period between 31 August and 13 September 2021, due to the effects of Alert Level 4, 3 or 2 (not Alert Level 2 only)
    • Read the declaration for Wage Subsidy #2

You need to retain evidence to support your declaration of revenue decline for the period you use.

  • If your application's approved

We'll text or email you once the payment has been made - this will go into your account overnight.

Your bank will use a specific reference - MSD COVID19 D.

If you haven't received payment in your account, it may be because we don't have the right bank account number for you. If this is the case, the money will be returned to us and we'll call you.

  • If your application is not approved

We’ll email you to let you know. It may not be approved if:

    • the application was completed by an employee (not the employer)
    • you applied using the wrong application form (for example you applied for an employee using the self-employed application form)
    • the details you gave us don’t match those held by Inland Revenue (IR)
    • you’ve made more than one application for that employee
    • you’re already getting a COVID-19 Wage Subsidy, COVID-19 Leave Support Scheme or the Short-Term Absence Payment for the same employee for the same period.

If you don’t agree with our decision, our email will tell you how you can get this reviewed.

If you are state sector organisation and your application has not been approved, you will need to contact your monitoring agency to discuss this.

If you have questions you can call us on 0800 40 80 40.

  • Other help available for businesses

As well as a COVID-19 Wage Subsidy 2021 payment, you may be able to get the COVID-19 Resurgence Support Payment from Inland Revenue, to help with fixed costs like rent.

You can get both payments at the same time.

If you cannot get a COVID-19 Wage Subsidy 2021 payment, you may be able to get the Leave Support Scheme or Short-term Absence Payment instead. You cannot get these payments while you're getting a COVID-19 Wage Subsidy 2021 payment.
