Landlord reference

If you move out of public (social) housing into a private rental and have a good tenancy record, you may be able to get a reference from your landlord.

The reference will cover the 3 main things landlords want to know when choosing a new tenant - whether:

  • you've paid your rent, eg, your rent payment history and current situation
  • you've caused any damage to the property
  • your behaviour has been acceptable, eg, if there's been any complaints about you.

The reference is called a Statement of Satisfactory Tenancy.

How to get a reference

Ask your landlord for a Statement of Satisfactory Tenancy. They can decide whether to give you one or not.
