My name is Che'dee
I'm a cleaner at SkyCity on day shift.
I like it here because there is a whole mixture of cultures here.
There are 14 to 15 staff daily and they're trained well
Our jobs are to keep the areas clean for our customers so when they come and visit SkyCity we can be proud of what we do.
We have a broad range of the age group of people who work for us.
We have a lot of students that work for us. Some that have been with us for a very long time. They put themselves through Uni.
We are working with four people. Everywhere is messy. People just drop their stuff wherever they sit so normally we are starting from the seating area.
After that we are jumping to the rubbish bins and after that inside the toilets.
I love this job because it gives me flexibility.
The hours I can pick and choose what I want to work.
The work life balance is attractive to me.
I can split my shifts up where I'd work in the morning, come back home for a few hours and say hello to the kids while my husband is still at work.
When he got home I'd go out to work at night.
I really like day shift because I have the rest of the afternoon off and I can spend time with my grandpa.
My wife, she's a healthcare assistant - we both work nights so we get to spend time with each other.
We have people of all ethnicities, all races, people who don't speak English and it's no barrier for us.
Because some of our most valued cleaners are people who don't speak much English.
We put people through basic literacy and numeracy courses.
We also do an NCEA accredited Careerforce Supervision and Caretaking training and through these stages they get a pay rise for each stage they graduate from.
So many opportunities in the cleaning industry to grow and the wages grow with that.
What I like about this job is... everything!
Minimum wage to start but honestly grow with the companies that you're with in this industry and it really is rewarding.
I love this job!
