Apply for Veteran's Pension
How to apply for Veteran's Pension and what documents you need to provide.
How to apply
Contact the Veteran's Pension Centre to talk about your circumstances and they'll explain how to apply.
20 working days to complete your application
You have 20 working days from the date you first contact us to complete the application process. You'll also need to provide any supporting documents within this time. If you don't do this, you may have to reapply.
If you can't complete your application within 20 working days for any reason, contact the Veteran's Pension Centre
Supporting documents you need to provide
You'll need to provide the following supporting documents:
- proof of your residence in NZ - this could be a:
- NZ birth certificate
- current NZ passport
- other country passport with residence class visa or residence permit, or
- NZ Citizenship Certificate
- 2 or more documents as proof of your identity (one of these must be at least 2 years old) - these could be:
- a marriage certificate
- a driver's licence, or
- bank statements
- proof of name change - this could be:
- a marriage certificate
- a Civil Union certificate, or
- deed poll papers
- proof of bank account number - this could be a:
- bank statement
- screenshot of your online banking (showing your name, account number and bank logo), or
- deposit slip
- proof of any overseas pension you get - this could be a:
- letter showing your payments
- statement showing your payments, or
- payslip showing your payments
- proof of the medical condition that stops you working (if you're under 65) - this could be:
- an application form with the medical part filled in by your doctor.
Community Services Card
If you get the Veteran's Pension, you're automatically entitled to a Community Services Card.
We'll send one out to you once your application for Veteran's Pension is approved.
Veteran SuperGold Card
Once your Veteran's Pension is approved, we'll automatically send you a Veteran SuperGold Card.
