Set your PIN for your payment card
29 July 2024.
From 29 July you can set a personalised PIN on your payment card, to keep the money on your card safe and secure.
A payment card is a reusable green card, like an EFTPOS card. They're an easy way to pay for one-off items and services, like food, dental treatment or glasses.
What’s changing
Right now, when you use your payment card, you use the last 4-digits on the card as the PIN. From 29 July you can set your own PIN, making your card more secure.
If you have a payment card, it's a good idea to set your PIN now so your card is ready to use if you need it.
From 23 September you must have a personalised PIN set to use your payment card. You won't be able to use the last 4-digits on your card, and if you don't have a personalised PIN set the card won't work.
Set your PIN in MyMSD
It's quick and easy to set your PIN online in MyMSD, by going to 'My payment cards'. You can also use MyMSD to reset your PIN if you forget it. MyMSD is available at any time, and you don't have to pay for data when you use it.
If you haven’t already registered for MyMSD, you can do this here:
If you can't use MyMSD, you can call us. When you're asked what you're calling about say, "set my card PIN".

How to use your PIN
You enter your PIN when you're at the checkout, after you've swiped the card and selected the CHQ option. Enter your personalised PIN, and then sign the receipt – the shop staff will check this matches your signature on the back of the card.

Information for suppliers
If you’re a supplier who is registered to accept our payment cards, please let your staff know about these changes.
The way our clients use the card will not change, but the PIN they enter will change.
Between 29 July and 22 September, the PIN will be either the last 4-digits on the card or their personalised PIN if they've set one.
From 23 September onwards, all payment cards must have a personalised PIN, and clients need to enter this when they pay.
If a client is having trouble with their payment card, ask them to check they've set a PIN via MyMSD, or by calling us saying 'Online help'.
