Change your bank account
If you want to change your bank account, you need to let us know as soon as possible. Don't close your old bank account until you've received a payment into your new account.
It takes 5 working days for your account details to be changed. If you've already closed your old account, call us.
How to tell us
Before you start
If you’re only changing the last 2 numbers of your account (the suffix), call us. We'll update this over the phone.
Step 1 - Get proof of your account
First you need to get proof of your new bank account number. This could be a:
- bank statement
- bank print-out stamped by the bank
- letter from the bank
- print-out from an ATM
- print-out of your internet banking which shows the web address, or
- photo or screenshot of your online banking.
Bank account evidence must show the:
- bank logo
- bank account number (does not have to show suffix), and
- account name(s).
Step 2 - Tell us about the change
You can either:
- upload your document to MyMSD (you need to call us on 0800 559 009 first), or
- complete the Change of bank account form. You can drop this and your evidence into, or post it to, your nearest service centre
Getting New Zealand Superannuation or Veteran's Pension
If your payments go to an overseas bank account, or you want your payments to go to an overseas bank account, contact Senior Services on 0800 552 002
Getting Youth Payment or Young Parent Payment
If you get Youth Payment or Young Parent Payment, you also need to contact your Youth Service provider directly to tell them about your change in circumstances.
