If you're on a low income or a benefit and struggling to pay school costs we may be able to help you.

You'll have to pay the money back.

  • Uniforms and stationery

    We may be able to help with school uniforms and stationery if you're on a low income or a benefit.

  • Fees and activities

    We may be able to help with the costs of some school fees and activities if there is an immediate and essential need for them.

    These costs could be:

    • school camps
    • trip costs
    • exam fees
    • attendance dues.

    Some schools may ask that students have computing equipment, eg iPad, laptop or tablet. If you can't afford to buy these we may be able to help, but you need to talk to the school first to see what options are available.

    If you're not on a benefit

    You may be able to get a Recoverable Assistance Payment.

    If you're on a benefit

    You may be able to get an Advance Payment of Benefit.

  • Getting Unsupported Child's Benefit or Orphan's Benefit

    Uniforms, stationery and school fees

    You're getting the Unsupported Child's Benefit or Orphan's Benefit and need help to pay for uniforms, stationery or school fees.


    Child is having difficulties at school

    You're getting the Unsupported Child's Benefit or Orphan's Benefit, and your child is having difficulties at school that are significantly impacting on their development.


    Child is showing promise in a particular subject

    You're getting the Unsupported Child's Benefit or Orphan's Benefit and your child is showing promise through high achievement in a particular area, eg music or sport.
