Jobseeker profile
Find out what a Jobseeker profile is, when you have to complete one and how to complete one.
A Jobseeker profile asks for information about:
- your work skills
- your qualifications, and
- the type of work you're looking for.
This will help us match you to job vacancies, or refer you to courses or training.
When you have to complete one
There are 2 situations when you will have to complete a Jobseeker profile:
- when you've applied for, or are transferring to, certain benefits
- when we've asked you to, as part of meeting your work-related obligations.
If you have a partner, they may also need to complete one.
You'll have to complete a Jobseeker profile when you've applied for, or are transferring to, the following benefits:
- Jobseeker Support
- Sole Parent Support
- Emergency Benefit (including Emergency Maintenance Allowance), if you're required to find work.
You'll need to complete the Jobseeker profile before your benefit can be approved.
If you're reapplying for Jobseeker Support or Sole Parent Support, you don't need to complete one before your reapplication is approved.
Timeframe to complete it
You have 20 working days from the date you first contact us to complete the application process. This includes completing a Jobseeker profile.
If you have a good reason for not completing a Jobseeker profile within 20 working days, we may be able to give you more time. Or we may decide that you don't need to complete one. It depends on your situation.
Examples of a good reason could be that:
- you suddenly had to go to hospital
- there was a death or illness in your family, or
- you had to leave the country for an emergency reason.
If you can't complete your Jobseeker profile within this timeframe, contact us to let us know.
We may ask you to complete a Jobseeker profile as part of completing your work-related obligations. If so, you must do it within the timeframe we give you.
If you don't complete it and you don't have a good reason, your benefit could reduce or stop.
If you can't complete your Jobseeker profile within the specified timeframe, contact us to let us know.
How to complete a profile
Follow the steps on this page to complete a Jobseeker profile.

Narrator [00:00:00]" In this quick tutorial, we'll show you how to set up your Jobseeker Profile.
[Picture of a phone scrolling through MyMSD.]
Narrator [00:00:05]: When you log in to MyMSD, you will land on the home page. To update your Jobseeker Profile, click on 'My profile' on the left banner. Scroll down the section to 'Jobseeker profile and click on 'Update profile'. If you do not currently have a Jobseeker profile set up, this option will say 'Create profile'.
[The MyMSD login screen appears and this changes to the MyMSD home page. A red circle appears around 'My profile' in the left hand navigation and a mouse pointer clicks on 'My profile'. The MyMSD 'My profile' page appears and the screen scrolls to the bottom of this page. A red arrow points to the 'Update profile' button and a red circle appears around the 'Update profile' button. The 'Update profile' button then changes to 'Create profile', a mouse pointer clicks on the button and the MyMSD 'Jobseeker profile' page appears.]
Narrator [00:00:26]: Fill in each section as best as you can. Include any previous work experience. If you have a current up to date CV. If you know someone that could be a referee for your job application. Any languages that you speak. Drivers licencing. And endorsements. Do you have any qualifications. Career types that you're interested in. The hours of work that would work for you. Locations in New Zealand that you could work. And if you have reliable transport to get to work.
[The screen slowly scrolls down the MyMSD 'Jobseeker profile' page. It stops at each question on the profile. 'Do you have any work experience?' and work experience details. 'Do you have an up to date CV?'. 'Do you know someone who could be a referee for your job application?'. 'What is your level of spoken English?' and 'Do you know a language other than English?'. 'Do you have a driver licence?' and licence details. 'Do you have a licence endorsement?'. 'Do you have any qualifications?' and qualification details. 'Add the types of jobs you are interested in'. 'What hours of work would you look for?' question and text appears saying 'Clients with work obligations might not be able to change their availability for work'. 'Where in New Zealand could you work?' and an 'Add more locations' option. 'Will you have reliable transport to get to work?'.]
Narrator [00:01:14]: Once you have updated these fields, click 'Save and submit'. Your Jobseeker profile has now been updated. Click OK and you'll be taken back to the My Profile page.
[At the bottom of the 'Jobseeker profile' page, a red circle appears around the 'Save and Submit' button and a mouse pointer clicks this button. A 'Jobseeker profile submitted' box appears that confirms your profile has been submitted. A mouse pointer clicks on the 'OK' button at the bottom of the 'Jobseeker profile submitted' box.]
Narrator [00:01:31]: You can see that updating the Jobseeker profile has added another job under the latest jobs.
[The MyMSD home page appears and the screen scrolls down to the 'Latest jobs' section and the new job listed in there.]
Narrator [00:01:37]: Remember, if you find a job you would like to apply for, call our job search line on 0800 779 009 with your client number and your Job ID.
[The MyMSD 'Job details' page comes up and words appear on the screen 'Call the Job Search team Monday to Friday 8am to 6pm 0800 779 009. The words disappear and the MyMSD 'Job details' page comes up again. A blue arrow points to the client number and another blue arrow points to the Job ID. The words 'Call the Job Search team Monday to Friday 8am to 6pm 0800 779 009' appear.]
Follow these steps to complete a profile

- education qualifications
- languages you speak
- driver license details.
We'll also ask you:
- where you want to work
- what type of work you're looking for
