How to get a client number
You'll need a client number to apply online and to register for some of our online tools. If you don't have one, or can’t find it, you can request one on this page.
What is a client number?
If you've received support from us before, you'll already have a client number with us.
It's a 9-digit number we issue you, the first time you deal with us, eg: 000-000-000.
This could be through Work and Income, StudyLink, Seniors or Youth Service.
Where to find your client number
You can find your client number on:
- any letters we've sent you (from Work and Income, the Ministry of Social Development or StudyLink)
- on the front of your community services card (if you have one)
- on the back of your Super Gold card (if you have one).
Request a client number
We'll need to ask you a few questions so we can check if you already have a client number with us, or if you need a new one.
It's easy and takes about 5 minutes.
You'll need your:
- name
- date of birth
- address
- IRD number
- NZ mobile phone number or email address.
Getting your client number
Once you've filled out the form, we'll get in touch with you to let you know what your client number is. If you fill in your IRD number we'll get back to you faster, otherwise we'll contact you within 1-2 working days.
After you get your client number, you can register for MyMSD and apply online.
