Transferring payment card balances to former Youth Service clients
Previous Youth Service clients who were in our money management programme can claim back any money left on their Youth Service Payment Card.
You may be able to claim this money back if you:
- were getting the Youth Payment or Young Parent Payment between 20 August 2012 and 15 November 2021
- had a payment card for the money management programme
- still had money left on your payment card and did not get this transferred to your bank account when you left the money management programme.
Check if you or someone else is owed money
If you currently get payments from us you don’t need to do anything. We’re contacting and paying all our current clients owed money.
If you used to get payments from us, you can use the ‘Payment errors enquiry’ form to check if you’re owed money. Our staff can’t tell you if you’re owed money or how much it is.
You can also use the ‘Payment errors enquiry’ form to enquire for someone else if:
- they’re not a current client with us
- a person has died.
The form will check if you (or the person you’re enquiring for) are owed money. It won’t say how much you’re owed, we’ll send you a letter to let you know this.
The enquiry tool can only be accessed from Australia and New Zealand.
Filling in the form for yourself
You'll need either your:
- Work and Income client number or Inland Revenue (IRD) number
- bank account number
- phone number, if you have one
- email address, if you have one
- postal address.
Filling in the form for someone else
You need to:
- have a valid Enduring Power of Attorney
- have a valid Court Order made under the Protection of Personal and Property Rights Act 1988, or
- be the person's agent, with authority to receive payments on their behalf.
We'll need your:
- phone number
- email address, if you have one
- postal address
- organisation name, if you're part of one.
You'll need the person's:
- Work and Income client number or Inland Revenue (IRD) number
- phone number, in case we need to contact them
- email address, if they have one
- bank account number, or your bank account number if you have the authority to receive payments on their behalf.
Filling in the form for someone who has died
You must:
- be the executor or administrator of their estate
- have been the person's partner or dependant, or a beneficiary of their estate.
We'll need your:
- organisation name, if you're part of one
- phone number
- email address, if you have one
- postal address
- bank account number.
You’ll need the person's Work and Income client number or Inland Revenue (IRD) number.
After filling in the enquiry form
If you have money left on your payment card, the form will ask you to submit your enquiry to claim this.
Once it's submitted, we'll match the information you've told us with our records. Within 7 working days we'll either:
- send you a letter and pay the money into your bank account
- contact you for more information if your details don't match our records or we need to clarify anything with you
- contact you if you’ve filled in the form for someone else or someone who has died, to make sure we make the payment to the right place.
If you live overseas, payments may take a little longer.
