He Poutama Rangatahi - Youth Employment Pathways
He Poutama Rangatahi is a work-readiness and skills initiative. It's for young people who are hard to reach and most at risk of long-term unemployment. He Poutama Rangatahi is now closed for new applications.
Applications for this funding closed on 10 February 2023 at 11:59pm.
He Poutama Rangatahi helps with individualised and ongoing support into training and employment.
The funding was available for community organisations which support rangatahi, Pacific youth and other young people.
How it works
He Poutama Rangatahi supports community-based organisations to help young people on the pathway to employment. It provides funding to organisations which provide wrap-around services to deliver sustained employment, education and training outcomes for young people. He Poutama Rangatahi also helps employers to get specialised employment support to help get young people into work and support them in their early stages of employment.
He Poutama Rangatahi closed for general applications on 26 August 2022.
Whakawātea te ara Poutama applications closed
Whakawātea te ara Poutama was a subset of He Poutama Rangatahi. It's specifically to help young people involved in criminal activity or with gang affiliations overcome barriers so they can get employment, education or training. This funding was available for new programmes in South Auckland, West Auckland, Northland, Bay of Plenty or Waikato.
Whakawātea te ara Poutama closed for applications on 10 February 2023.
Who could get this

- been community-based
- been located in South Auckland, West Auckland, Northland, Bay of Plenty or Waikato

- highlighted current interventions which could be scaled up or redirected
- identified gaps in support and pastoral care for both young people and employers
