Impact of child support payments on Christmas benefit payments
21 December 2023.
If you get a benefit and get child support income through Inland Revenue (IR), your benefit payment may be affected when we pay you early because of the Christmas public holidays.
If you usually get paid on a Tuesday
If you usually get paid on Tuesday 26 December, you will be paid early - on Friday 22 December - and unfortunately we won't be able to process your IR child support income in time.
This means if your IR child support amount reduces your payments, we may overpay you and you will need to pay us back. If you don't already have repayments set up, we'll try to call you about this.
If you get our letter asking you to call within seven days to talk about repayment options, you don't need to call us. We can discuss this with you next time you speak with us.
If you usually get paid on a Wednesday or Thursday
If you're due to be paid on Wednesday 27 December, you will be paid early - on Saturday 23 December. And if you're usually paid on a Thursday, there is no change to your pay day, you'll be paid on Thursday 28 December.
We may have time to adjust your benefit to take into account your IR child support income. If this happens, we will send you a letter, confirming you don't need to re-pay this money and you don't need to call us.
